What We Do

HandyTool is a growing library of free online calculators and everyday utilities designed to answer one question quickly and clearly. No sign-up, no app download, no paywalls. Open a page, get your answer, close the tab — that's it.

We started with the Tip Calculator because it's a tool nearly everyone needs and most existing options are either bloated with ads or hide basic features (like splitting, rounding, or multiple currencies) behind paywalls. Our goal is simple: every calculator on this Site should load in under a second, work perfectly on mobile, and give you the answer without friction.

Our Principles

Fast by Default

Every page is a single HTML file with no heavy JavaScript frameworks. That means sub-second loads even on slow connections — important for travelers using our Tip Calculator on mobile data abroad.

Your Inputs Stay Private

All calculations run entirely in your browser. Bill amounts, tip percentages, and other inputs are never sent to our servers. Preferences you set (like your default currency) are saved in your browser's local storage and stay on your device.

Mobile First

More than half of our visitors are on phones. Every tool is designed for touch input with large tap targets, clear contrast, and an interface that works the same whether you're at a restaurant, on a train, or at home.

Accurate & Honest

We build tools we use ourselves. Every calculator is tested against known results before it ships, and we welcome corrections from users. If we recommend a product through an affiliate link, we disclose it clearly and only feature options we'd actually consider using.

Who We Are

HandyTool is an independent project run by a small team of developers and writers who care about fast, accessible software. We're not backed by a venture fund or a big media company — the Site is supported by display advertising (via Google AdSense) and a small number of carefully chosen affiliate partnerships.

This model lets us keep every tool completely free while staying independent. We've intentionally kept our ad density low so the calculators themselves stay the focus of each page.

How We Make Money

We're transparent about this: the Site earns revenue in two ways.

  1. Display advertising: Non-intrusive ads served through Google AdSense appear in a few set positions on each page. They help cover hosting, domain, and development costs.
  2. Affiliate partnerships: When we recommend a product (like a cash-back credit card useful for restaurant spending), we may earn a commission if you apply through our link. This comes at no extra cost to you, and we only include products we believe are genuinely worth considering.
